California Culinary Scene with Rick Marino of Desert Dust
Tour manager by day, Desert Dust slinger by night, founder Rick Marino brings his rock n roll mentality to the shelf with Desert Dust's date-based seasoning blends.
Happy Tuesday! While you’re reading this I’m in Kansas City for the week. I’ll be here till Friday, so if you have any food + shopping recommendations please send them my way. I’m praying I run into Taylor Swift.
The studio is taking it’s break 12/23-01/05 and I’m taking that time to set myself up for success in 2025, both professionally and personally. If there’s anything new you’d like to see on Substack or in the podcast, drop it in the comments! I know I’m a Leo/Virgo cusp because the idea of having uninterrupted time to organize sounds like a dream.
I need to tell you about my current favorite breakfast. I love a breakfast plate set up like a snack plate.
French Omelette with lots of parm + pepper
Toasted sourdough with salted butter
Olives
Smoked salmon
Sheep’s milk yogurt
Lots of water
On that note, I’ve been loving *thin* rice crisps with crunchy peanut butter and sliced persimmon with smoked flaky salt. DELISH!!
Podcast: Rick Marino of Desert Dust
Tour manager by day, Desert Dust slinger by night, founder Rick Marino brings his rock n roll mentality to the shelf with Desert Dust's date-based seasoning blends. Inspired by the desert that Rick calls home and has loved for decades, Desert Dust uses dates from Coachella Valley to craft flavorful, healthy, desert-powered spice blends and taco seasonings. Rick noticed a lack of California culinary souvenirs throughout his travels and that is what sparked the idea for Desert Dust. Now people can bring a piece of the desert home.

I love painting my nails but sometimes the task of painting them + having to clean up is too much. I impulse purchased the Manicurist Active Glow polish and it’s actually so perfect. So glowy and natural while still looking polished.
I just got the big boy Bink (27oz) and I haven’t put it down in the week since I got it. The shade of orange is magical. (see pic above!)
The joy this podcast brings me is unmatched. It just scratches an itch in my brain and the two of them talking sounds like the convos that go on in my subconscious lol.
Justine Cooks cookbook, Wes got this for me on Black Friday and I am just so thrilled to have it in my collection. The way Justine approaches food makes my heart happy.
I am obsessed with Alissa’s content and this baked Japanese sweet potato recipe is my hyper fixation meal right now.
